What is a Dermatologist
Dermatologists are doctors that specialize in treating conditions of the skin, hair and nails. To become a board certified dermatologist, you must graduate college, complete four years of medical school, one year of general medical training known as an internship, and three years of specialized dermatology training known as residency. At that point, the physician is eligible to take a rigorous and thorough certification exam, administered by the American Board of Dermatology. Subsequently, the physician has to demonstrate sufficient professional ability to practice competently, ethically and independently. At this point, the physician will be certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
